To give the illusion of a light up blue section I painted the underneath metallic blue and then applied a plastic cover overtop by cutting a plastic vial in half. By sanding away the overcoat it gives a metallic quality without making it too flashy (ha! get it!?). When painting, use you brush to make sure the paint doesn’t pool in the cut sections and everything is evenly covered.įor the overall look I decided to do an undercoat of silver and then a dark grey on top. I secured the screws in using hot glue in the hole. I curved them using a blowdryer and then glued them on using hot glue. The front plastic guards were cut from styrene (thin plastic). Use reference images to plan out your cutsĪs you have to make the same pattern on both sides (which is rather difficult) you can create the illusion of them being identical by connecting the cuts on the top and bottom. If you rush or apply too much pressure you will chip the foam and cause problems for yourself Protect your lungs and eyes from foam particles as you cut (plus you look like a gangster) I tried glueing it with PVA glue and it didn’t work :S Alternatively you can avoid all this if you can find 1.5′’ thick sheets (alas i could not >_<) Glue the foam together using contact cement. Super glue (for plastic), hot glue, and contact cement (for foam) It carves and sands well but you have to be careful because it can chip away if you are too rough :/ I made the gun out of pink insulation foam board, i.e. I’ve never made a gun before but heck, I accepted cuz he’s awesome! My friend is cosplaying as Captain Cold from The CW’s Flash and he commissioned me to make a cold gun. Learning-to-sew Originally from ptr-cosplay How I made Capt.
